JESUS
JESUS OUR RESCUER
Jesus is most important. At Olympia City Church we love, adore and serve Jesus as our great Rescuer and King. Why do we need a rescuer? Because of sin.
The great Biblical narrative begins with God creating all things. Soon man sins against God bringing the penalty of sin on mankind. What is sin? Sin is desiring something over God. Sin is worshiping something instead of God. The bible teaches that all have sinned and have fallen short of God’s glory. Because of this we need a Rescuer. The Bible speaks of a man who “became sin who knew no sin that we might become the righteousness of God…” This man was Jesus Christ, our great Rescuer. We call him rescuer because we can’t rescue ourselves. No matter how hard we work, no matter how much we give away and no matter how good we seem, we are doomed without Jesus.
Jesus said of himself, “I am the way, the truth, the life…” At Olympia City Church we believe and affirm that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life. He is the Way to Father. Jesus told his followers, “…no one comes to the Father except through me.” It is only through Jesus, the way, that we will dwell with God for eternity. He is also the truth. Jesus is truthful and we can take him at his word. He truthfully taught that we are sinners in need of a Rescuer so we can become friends with God. Jesus is also the life. Through His death, burial and resurrection he brings life to all who repent & receive Him. Jesus changes everything. It is His life, death, resurrection and ascension that is the central focus of all we do.

JESUS OUR KING
Jesus is our King. He rules our lives standing as King over all we are and desire. We believe that Jesus is God, so he rules life best. As ruler of our lives we surrender ourselves to his rule & reign.
Why do we say Jesus is our King? Soon after sin entered the world God chose a nation through which he would reveal himself. Israel became God’s chosen nation. Soon they desired a king who would be their ruler. God chose a king and gave him the thrown. However, as king after king came to the thrown, each king fell short of what Israel desired. They desired lasting peace and prosperity. Yet none of her kings could provide ultimate peace. Israel desired an honest & powerful king. Yet their kings lacked integrity and never completely won all their battles.
Finally an unlikely king came. This king was none other than Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus was considered “King of the Jews” by many in his day. King Jesus fought for Israel and all mankind in an unexpected way. He gave up his life on a cross, was buried and rose again on the third day according to the scriptures. King Jesus in his obedience to the Father through the power of the Spirit with sacrificial love brought victory by giving his life as a ransom for many. He fought for Israel and for us by accomplishing victory over sin and death. So we bow our lives to King Jesus. At Olympia City Church we love, adore, serve and obey Jesus as Rescuer and King!
